    Admittedly, Warren was not a “gym person” for most of his life. The idea of working out inside was honestly not appealing whatsoever until he found CrossFit. Warren was pushed by his wife Kim to give it a shot 7 years ago, and there was no turning back. CrossFit provided an opportunity to train for performance for his career as an adventure photographer and various passions including, hunting, guiding, and volunteering with ground search and rescue. While training for photography expeditions which included mountaineering, ice climbing, rafting, hiking, etc., Warren fell in love with the process of growth through effort, the building of mental toughness, and the amazing, supportive community. These were all the qualities he wanted to share with others, and this is what spurred him on to open Actuate with Matt, and bring CrossFit to Antigonish.

    Megan Crawford didn’t always love to sweat! She started her fitness journey 10 years ago to Essentially lose the freshmen 15lb! Here she started bodybuilding style workouts and Incorporated cardio. Once ready she started running local road races around the providence which kept her occupied for a few years- Then after a loss in her life she needed another distraction - this is where she found cycling ! Quickly falling in love she added her running , cycling and growing up with a pool all together to start a new challenge - Triathlons ! She loved it but also found training by herself boring and needed more of a community. After being convinced to join CrossFit Actuate she has been a die hard ever since! With only being a member for 1 year she then took her level 1. CrossFit had everything she always enjoyed in one - weightlifting , endurance , a challenge and friends! One of the biggest surprises she found is she enjoys the gymnastics piece of CrossFit more then she would have even known!

  • Madison Gorman

    CF-L1 TRAINER

    Madison started CrossFit in her first year at StFX, while looking for a way to stay active after wrapping up her high school sports career. Her mom, Wendy, had been a member for several months and convinced her to try it out, after her first class she was hooked! CrossFit has allowed Madison to completely change her perspective on exercise, instead of seeing it as something you have to do, it is now something she believes you get to do, and it is something she looks forward to everyday. Since joining, Madison believes she has been able to become the best version of herself, both inside and outside of the gym, and finds it has even benefited her in studies towards a Human Kinetics degree. She looks forward to continuing to learn as both an athlete and a coach in the Actuate community.

    Growing up, John was involved with every team sport possible, but as he grew older, the opportunities for competitive/athletic outlets dwindled. 8 years ago, his (now) wife Allison encouraged him to join her for an onboarding class, which left him sore for the next week, but eager for more. Having coached soccer, basketball, and rock climbing, among others, the transition to coaching CrossFit was a natural fit. One of John’s favourite aspects of CrossFit is the community; it has enabled him to feel welcome in whatever province he has ended up in, and left him with amazing friendships.
